Propagation Place

Posted: 7 Jan 2022

Deadline: 31 Jan 2022

Compensation: £9.30 per hour

Paid Part-time Fixed term / contract

Job description

St Werburghs City Farm is an inner-city oasis. Our vision is to inspire and educate happy, healthy communities through green spaces, local food and each other. Using a 2-acre small holding, a 1-acre community garden, a 2.5 conservation site and 13 acres of community allotments, our mission is to increase people's knowledge of where food comes from and access to locally produced food, enhance people's health and wellbeing through greater access to green spaces, and improve the capacity, confidence and cohesion of our community. With more than 3,500 service users, 15,000 people enjoying our events/facilities and more than 40,000 local visitors passing through the gates each year, we are a vital community resource, freely accessible to all.

Overall purpose of job

Propagation Place is the Farm’s eCommerce Community Business where a small team of staff and local volunteers grow and dispatch over 2000 orders of vegetable plug plants, amounting to over 100,000 individual plants, both locally and nationwide each growing season. All profits from sales are used to fund the work that we do in our local community. The project was born out of a consultation with local people to find out how we could better support our local food system whilst providing accessible volunteering, training and employment opportunities from our relatively small urban site. The Project Assistant will be responsible for supporting the Propagation Place Project through propagation, growing, packing and sales of vegetable plug plants, and be part in all other aspects of the project.
