Job description

The Fold CIC in Worcestershire is committed to positive change.

We are seeking an enthusiastic café assistant to join our community to support our Café team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about bring our exquisite local, organic food to customers old and new, in our figurehead cafe. Around 70% of the food served in the Café is organic, and much of the fresh produce is grown on site in our Market Garden. The Café is often a visitor’s first experience of our projects, and this role helps ensure those precious first impressions are really great.

The Fold Cafe is set on an organic farm in the beautiful Teme valley near Malvern. The wider farm and market garden are both Soil Association certified and we currently produce vegetables, herbs, fruit and eggs for The Fold Cafe and Farm Shop, a small box scheme and some wholesale customers.

Excellent accommodation is available on the farm and this position could be suitable for someone interested in community living.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

Our café staff are often our customers’ first experience of people at the Fold. As such, this is a key role in ensuring they are welcomed and inspired by The Fold, its produce and ethos. The role is to ensure the smooth running of the Café, and provide customers with a great experience of nutritious, organic, vegetarian food.

Part or full time position available, days to be negotiated, including potential for occasional Sundays or evenings as required.

Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm and occasional Sundays - £9.50 p/hr

Main areas of responsibility:

• Welcoming customers
• Taking orders and payment from customers
• Making drinks and snack orders
• Ensuring the chef receives orders in a consistent way
• Helping customers with queries and concerns
• Using the till
• Ensuring proactive adherence to health and hygiene procedures
• Clearing tables and pot washing
• Assisting with set up, cleaning and close down procedures at the beginning at end of each session
• Actively listening to customer feedback and sharing it with the café team
• Take deliveries and support kitchen staff as required

• A passion for organic vegetarian and vegan food
• An outgoing, positive, proactive, and organised individual excited by introducing new customers to fresh vegetarian food and maintaining excellent service to existing customers

Desirable skills/experience/attributes:

• Interest in living in community
• An interest in TEAL organisations
• Commitment to personal growth
• Level 2 food hygiene certificate
• Previous café/catering experience
• Understanding of COSHH safeguards
• Barista training
