Job description

About the role 

We are seeking a researcher to join our expanding team to support the delivery of science-led, data focused, sustainability consultancy programmes for our clients.  The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic and multi-disciplinary team committed to improving food system resilience through global consultancy and digital solutions for food brands and producers   Your role will include: 

  • Provide technical expertise on the environmental effects of food production
  • Project management of research projects for clients or part of FAI’s internal R&D portfolio.
  • Desk based research and review of scientific literature.
  • Planning, and delivery of trials at FAI and externally, including data collection, data entry, analysis and reporting.
  • Analysis and reporting of data, including sustainability metrics and survey responses collected via FAI’s software.
  • Working with and helping support the development of FAI’s software solutions to help measure and support positive improvement.
  • Preparation and delivery of technical material, sustainability reports, presentations and case studies.
  • Delivery of stakeholder training, including generation of training materials

Personal requirements   

We’re keen to hear from a range of applicants with applicable experience. You should be able to demonstrate that you are able to meet some, or all, of the following requirements:  

  • Expertise in sustainable and regenerative food production with understanding of, or experience working in any of the following areas: soil health / ecosystem functions and services / environmental impact assessments / life cycle assessments / UK and global legislation for environmental stewardship

  • Keen attention to detail and commitment to high quality work   
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work well as part of and lead a project team.  
  • Interest in the development and interrogation of data to drive sustainability in agriculture and fisheries/aquaculture supply chains.  
  • Comfortable with working remotely and with colleagues in a variety of international locations.  
  • Self-motivated and autonomous with effective time management abilities  
  • Excellent organizational skills and able to deliver quality work on time for multiple, simultaneous projects.  
  • Appreciation of scientific processes and rigour  

Your skills and experience  

We’re keen to hear from a range of applicants who can demonstrate some, or all, of the following skills and experience:  

  • Relevant postgraduate level education in Biological, Environmental, or Agricultural Science or undergraduate level with equivalent experience in industry or academia (essential).
  • Prior experience in planning and delivering research or desk based scientific projects (essential)
  • Experience with sustainability metrics, data collection and analysis (essential)
  • Excellent English, both written and verbal communication skills (essential) 
  • Excellent computer skills, data handling, statistical and mathematical competency including experience with analytical tools such as R, Minitab or SPSS (essential)  
  • Experience with big data analysis, e.g. multilevel modelling (desirable)
  • Experience with or a strong interest in furthering industry sustainability metrics, data collection, and impact analysis (desirable)
