Job description

We have an exciting opportunity to widen our core team and hire a veg box coordinaor for our community supported agriculture scheme in Bath. We are seeking a reliable and hard-working team member to join us in providing 140-180 people with fresh produce each week (delivered by bike and refrigerated van). This role will include harvesting, deliveries, subscriptions, finances/invoicing members (all on our veg box software). We are seeking a well-rounded individual with some experience in both practical work and administrative skills to support Middle Ground Growers as we upscale our farm and evolve our community supported agriculture model.  

  • w/c 13th January 2025 start 
  • 3-5 days per week depending on person. 
  • £12.50/hour depending on experience 
  • employment with Middle Ground Growers CIC with employee benefits, pension, holiday and sick pay.
  • Many other benefits e.g. access to free fresh fruit / veg & other farm products , access to our on farm staff farm shop (essentials and wholefoods order for staff and team kitchen), and use of solar barn spaces, opportunities for sub-enterprises, events and ideas. Access to our monthly workshops and training opportunities. Use of tools, workshop spaces etc. 

Minimum role includes Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays 8.00 - 4.30

Tuesday - office and administration day organising and coordinating the veg box scheme, customers, ordering, planning deliveries and managing ooooby (veg box software). And preparing for veg box day on the farm e.g. harvest and packing stations prep. 

[From Spring 2025 an option to do an additional day on a wednesday running the veg box harvest and preparation.]

Thursday - Over time leading on veg box packing according to our print out customer sheets (from oooby). Working with team to ensure an organized and diligent packing process with quality control and consistency. 

Friday - Delivering the veg boxes in our refrigerated van to customer homes and veg box hubs! And pack down/reset for the week. 

For the right person, there are additional hours available leading on or supporting the following role areas in 2025: 

Farmers market role - From January 

Optional/additional opportunity on Saturday mornings - coordinate or support our Bath farmers market stall - taking our veg down to green park station for 8-1 farmers market including seeking new veg box sign ups and engaging directly with wider community, other traders and Bath’s foodies ! 1 day per week role likely to be combined with one of the other roles available. 

Assistant grower & Wholesale role - from Spring 2025  

We are also looking for an assistant grower to lead on polytunnel crops and support the market garden production. For the right person this role could include leading on monday harvest and pack days for our local and national wholesale outlets, and time allocated for polytunnel management & growing. 1.5 - 2 days depending on person. 

 

What we are looking for in applicants: 

  • A long term team member to join Middle Ground Growers and help to shape our evolving enterprise, farm and vision. Potential and ambition to expand their role into a full-time role and potentially business partner at MGG in future years. 
  • Good time management, punctuality and commitment.  Adaptable, flexible and open to doing a variety of land and business jobs that arise
  • Ideally some administrative or customer relations experience. 
  • Someone who can work independently (with a mandate and a support role), efficiently and proactively 
  • A people person able to communicate positively with customers and help us to reach out to more people, widening our veg box community 
  • A balanced skillset of the head, heart and hands - able to do the administrative parts of the role effectively, able to deliver the product on the ground to a high quality with farm team, and a heart-centered communicator able to navigate working in a complex team with time and enterprise demands (especially in the summer!).  
  • Some experience with veg box schemes and similar operations ideally (but training on our systems will be provided, and we are open to matching those systems to the person, for the new role to help co-evolve these as the farm grows qualitatively). 
  • A dedicated, diligent worker who see’s the wider value and vision in agroecological  food systems work and wants to be an active part of making a difference with physical work on the ground (and in the day to day logistics that make it all happen!).
  • Adaptable, flexible and open to doing a variety of land and business jobs that arise
