Job description

The Woolwich Front Room is community space situated on Powis Street in the heart of Woolwich.  The aim is to run it as an inclusive, community venue for local events, exhibitions, sales space and small café. In addition, there are flexible spaces for hire both upstairs and downstairs.  

The main aims of this role are to manage and coordinate activity at the Front Room and drive sales for income generation. The role will be supported with a team from other community venues and line manager, and will include planning and implementing promotion and outreach including digital, networking, planning and coordinating, events, excellent customer care, supervising staff and volunteers, running the café and ensuring excellent management of the facility.

28 hours per week, Tuesday – Friday, 10am – 5pm but also to include evenings and weekends when necessary.

Main duties of the role

  • Managing smooth day to day running of the space adhering to all checklists, policies and procedures including responding to enquiries (in person and online), managing bookings, meeting and greeting, setting up rooms, health and safety checks and cleaning schedules
  • Driving sales and bookings to the Front Room including room hire, parties, outreach to community groups businesses and statutory sectors to promote the Front Room, in line with set targets
  • Managing the café including, sourcing products (in line with Good Food in Greenwich Hospitality Charter), monitoring sales and popularity of products, weekly ordering, food safety systems etc.
  • Implementing a communications strategy
  • Updating social media accounts and website (driving traffic, posts, stories and interactions) in order to promote all aspects of the venue and related events
  • Seeking funding for the Front Room (support will be provided for writing funding bids)
  • Implementing planning of events and activities in line with all policies and procedures
  • Managing administrative duties in line with GCDA policies and procedure including bookings, emails, ordering stock and maintaining proper health and safety and food safety systems
  • Coordinating the retail and gallery elements with support from Curation Team
  • Have or be willing to have a basic DBS check 
  • Have or be willing to train for a Food Safety Level 2 certificate and food allergen training
  • Be flexible and willing to work some evenings when necessary
  • Supervise other staff and volunteers when working
