Job description

Haye Farm is looking for a long term partnership with the prospective grower. Ideally a couple (second salary to be negotiated) that can take on the buisness together. Someone/or couple that has the willingness to shape the business to make it their own, with the ongoing support and existing customer basis that Haye Farm has established.  The successful vegetable business, established 6 years ago, produces for a number of restaurants and shops on an area of 3 acres.  The set-up includes three production polytunnels, two propagation tunnels, a large packing room, a refrigerated storage room, and associated machinery and equipment. 

Our 72 acre mixed organic farm located in East Devon comprises a number of businesses. We have a small herd of Red Devon cows, breeding sows, Exlana sheep, egg laying chickens, a butchery and a brewery, for which we grow heritage grains. Our aim is to create sustainable food systems which support high levels of productivity whilst encouraging an increase in biodiversity and wildlife. Our farm team consists of four full time staff and two part time staff.

The farm is situated close to the picturesque Jurassic coast with boundless opportunities for walking and outdoor pursuits.

A one bedroom annex is available onsite by seperate negotiation.

Salary dependent on skills and experience and would be dependent on how many people taking on the role. Alternatively to a salaried position there is the oppotunity to embark on a profit share model, the trial this year was sucessful and is now open for discussion on a long term basis, as is renting out the buisness as an independent identity. 

Desirable skills:

  • First hand experience running a successful productive market garden.
  • Experience and proven ability in the management of a small team.
  • Practical with machinery.
  • Tractor experience essential.
  • Use of planting, harvesting and weeding machinery essential.
  • Maintenance of tools, equipment and site.
  • Experience of crop rotations and planning.
  • Thorough, precise and well organised.
  • The ability to provide the highest level of quality.
  • Hands-on, energetic and positive. 
  • Good team work, cooperative, able to follow instructions, communicate well. 
  • Reliable, self-motivated and able to work on own at times.
  • Basic IT skills and good record keeping essential.     
  • Driving license essential.
