Job description

We are now looking to recruit a grounded, hard-working and experienced commercial head grower who can take the lead on crop planning and vegetable production and will bring their own experiences and ideas to this thriving business—and embrace this diverse and magical garden.

As well as extensive horticultural growing and crop planning experience, you will have excellent organisational skills and keen attention to detail, combined with a range of appropriate practical knowledge and skills, including tractor driving and machinery maintenance, general maintenance, and so on. You will also have excellent communication skills and a proven track record of working well with others, including seasonal staff, students, volunteers and part-timers — plus the ability to get the best from them.

Working alongside Sonia Oliver, your key tasks will include:

• Participating in the strategic development of the business over the next five years
• Planning and managing every aspect of garden production
• Managing a team of paid staff, trainees and volunteers
• A commitment to education and sharing knowledge (including student interns and the many school groups we work with)
• Maintenance (mechanical and general)
• Willingness to be involved in the retail side of the operation.
