About the role 

We are looking for experienced freelance community food-growers and workshop facilitators to co-deliver food growing and gardening workshops in various London boroughs with an immediate start.

Urban Growth Learning Gardens is a social enterprise that improves Londoners' well-being by collaborating with them to create & maintain beautiful, biodiverse spaces.

Role & Responsibilities

The majority of our workshops are 2 hour, drop-in, family-friendly, food-growing / gardening workshops, plus extra time for prepping and tidying before and after each session. 

Your role includes:

  • Sharing your passion for growing! 
  • Enthusing people in getting started / improving their knowledge in food growing and gardening activities 
  • Record keeping: Taking photos at each session and ensuring relevant forms are filled in eg registration and feedback forms.
  • Communicating with UG staff to share photos and any feedback from the workshops

Person Specification

  • Natural ability to relate to others and engage people from a variety of different backgrounds (including children.)
  • Experience of running workshops
  • Good working knowledge of food growing
  • Available to work some early evenings and or weekends
  • Enhanced DBS required (We can support with this)


  • Horticultural qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience of delivering community food growing and gardening workshops in urban spaces
  • Understanding of the benefits of health and wellbeing in relation to food growing
  • Knowledge of the London food growing scene
  • First aid training certificate
  • * Particularly looking for freelancers who have availability on some Saturdays.
