Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to be in at the start of a new venture based at No 93, Church Lane (Harpurhey), a recently reopened Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust community facility. The café & kitchen are an integral part of our organisational forward-plan for supporting our Community Grocer project and creating Manchester’s first community food-centre. We are looking for an experienced café manager with a passion for cooking, healthy-eating and developing people. The role would be a good fit for an energetic and enthusiastic person who has experience of managing a café & kitchen, managing staff and volunteers providing a supportive and learning environment.

The key-tasks include:

  1. Lead a kitchen team developing dishes that support people with healthy living.
  2. Developing menus that meet customer needs and support people with healthy living.
  3. Manage the whole process of providing hot and cold dishes as part of the café offer.
  4. Manage and induct staff and volunteers to assist in a range of café related tasks.
  5. Supervise and instruct all staff in the use of all equipment, hygiene procedures, required health and safety standards, customer care, till operation, giving help and guidance where appropriate.
  6. Ensure statutory food safety, health and safety and cleaning standards are consistently high.
  7. Carry out a cleaning schedule.
  8. Manage all administrative records, including food safety compliance, stock management, project reporting and banking.
  9. Receive deliveries, ensure correct stock rotation ensuring that all perishable and non-perishable commodities are stored under the correct conditions.
  10. Maintain training and development plans for all staff and volunteers.
  11. Develop positive relationships with customers, No 93 partners and community stakeholders.
  12. Undertake other duties as required to meet the organisational needs.
