Sustain alliance member, and long-time Real Bread Campaign supporter, The School of Artisan Food has announced a range of bursaries to support students on these courses in 2026:

  • Creating a Microbakery: Theory and Practical (June and September 2026 intakes)
  • Artisan Summer School (July 2026 intake)  
  • Higher Diploma in Artisan Baking and Business Skills (September 2026 intake)

‘The School of Artisan Food believes that high-quality food education should be accessible to all.  We work with a range of generous organisations to offer a variety of opportunities that enable applicants to study with us.’

Bursaries are available for between one and three students on each of the four courses. The application deadline is 19 April 2026.

The bursaries

The Barbara Curtis Trust Microbakery Bursary is for furthering education and training for the residents of England and Wales, to pursue professional training in bakery, confectionery, butchery, and catering. The fund exists to widen access to high‑quality vocational education and to enable learners to achieve their goals in the food sector.

Grands Moulins de Paris Microbakery Bursary is available to students to support widening access to professional baking and micro‑enterprise training. It is designed for individuals who are underrepresented in bakery ownership and leadership, and who face documented structural barriers to entering or progressing within the artisan bakery sector.

Les Dames' d'Escoffier London (LDE London) Microbakery Bursary supports women in accessing professional baking and micro‑enterprise training.

The Rothschild Foundation Summer School Bursary is designed to ensure that individuals with refugee backgrounds can access this four-week course without financial barriers. To ensure fairness, transparency, and personal dignity, this bursary is awarded only to applicants who can provide appropriate confirmation of their refugee status / Humanitarian Protection / Refugee Family Reunion. All verification processes are respectful, non-intrusive, and fully compliant with UK data protection standards.

The Shipton Mill Microbakery Bursary is available to students to support widening access to professional baking and micro‑enterprise training. It is designed for individuals who are underrepresented in bakery ownership and leadership, and who face documented structural barriers to entering or progressing within the artisan bakery sector

The Whitaker Charitable Trust Diploma Bursary is designed to ensure that individuals with refugee backgrounds can access the Higher Diploma in Artisan Baking and Business Skills without financial barriers. To ensure fairness, transparency, and personal dignity, this bursary is awarded only to applicants who can provide appropriate confirmation of their status. All verification processes are respectful, non-intrusive, and fully compliant with UK data protection standards.

Bursary places may be added throughout the year as new opportunities arise.
