Job description

General Manager – Horticulture, Conservation & Community Wellbeing Charity.

Full Time – Hope Farm Garden, Hawkhurst.

£35K-£40K based on experience.

Hands of Hope are restoring & developing a neglected walled kitchen garden and 22 acres of AONB land in Hawkhurst, located on the Kent and East Sussex Border – “Hope Farm Garden” - whilst conserving the site’s natural heritage.

Since securing planning in January 2019, we have been delivering programmes aimed at tackling food poverty, rural isolation and loneliness as well as improving mental & physical health for communities throughout Rother, Hastings, & West Kent. Projects include Get Growing, Bee in Company, Helping Hands Lunch Clubs, Men in Sheds and Holiday Hunger; additionally, we offer, free, rural crafts training & Volunteering sessions. We have a productive, organic, market garden, with Soil Association Accreditation & plan to extend our growing capacity in 2022 to support our new Box Scheme, Hope Farm Organics which was launched on 9th July 2021.

Our current plans see us developing facilities on site that will support a thriving and inclusive community made up of Service Users, Volunteers, Service Providers, Corporate users, and commercial customers as well as continuing to expand the delivery of our outreach activities throughout Rother, Hastings, and West Kent. To support out ambitious plans we are recruiting a talented and dynamic General Manager who will be responsible for running Hands of Hope’s operations as well as playing a vital role in shaping our future.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced General Manager to lead the charity through the next stage of our development. You will lead a team of committed Staff, Volunteers and Partners to deliver horticulture, conservation, access, community and wellbeing projects across Rother, Hastings and West Kent as well as delivering and developing income generating products. You must be able to manage multiple budgets, have excellent written and communication skills as well as experience in managing partnership development, contract referrals and income generation.
