Ways into Work is an employee-owned social enterprise supporting some 500 people with disabilities or other barriers and we have a clear mission: Changing Lives One Job at a Time. We want employers to understand the benefits of diversity in the workforce and supporting people with disabilities or other barriers to gain and maintain paid employment.
Thanks to new funding, we are focused on the first of our commercial ventures in setting up a brand new café in Reading. It will create several job and development opportunities for our clients and the wider community demonstrating what real diversity in the workplace looks like. It will also be a key profit centre to do its part in supporting Ways into Work. The Café will challenge perceptions as well as providing the area with a happy place to meet, eat and have a great coffee.

Job title: Café Manager
· Contract: permanent
· Salary band: £25 -35,000 pro rata, depending on experience.
· Location: Reading (adjacent to town centre).
· Hours: Full time (37 hours), working flexibly including weekends. Part time hours will be considered for the right candidate.
· Essentials. You will:
o have at least 2 years’ experience as a hard working and passionate café or restaurant manager or supervisor
o have at least 4 years’ experience in hospitality, ideally
o have considerable experience in leading operations within a café environment including regulatory and compliance requirements
o be able to demonstrate good commercial skills, balancing profit optimisation whilst creating an inclusive environment.
o As manager of a diverse team, you will share our values
o Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
o demonstrate resilience in balancing multiple priorities and in challenging situations.
o use basic IT systems independently and efficiently.
o have the appropriate proof of the Right to Work in the UK
o be subject to an enhanced disclosure by the Disclosure & Barring Service.
Extras: Very few people who start with us have worked in supported employment before; in this role your expertise in café management and sharing our values is what’s most important. However, experience in education, working with people with disabilities or other barriers, health & social care or employment support would be really handy for this role.
