Job description

Propagation Place is the Farm’s Community Business where a small team of staff and volunteers grow and dispatch over 2000 orders of vegetable plug plants, amounting to over 100,000 individual plants, both locally and nationwide each growing season. All profits from sales are used to fund the work that we do in our local community. The project helps people grow their own food whilst providing accessible volunteering, training and employment opportunities from our relatively small urban site. We are looking for people to learn and thrive in the project, working in our polytunnel and nursery undertaking propagation (sowing), growing, packing, and sales of vegetable plug plants.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Seed sowing
  • Picking and packing of vegetable plug plants for online orders
  • Day-to-day tasks such as setting up activities and tidying up at the end of the day
  • Onsite plant sales to members of the public
  • Assist with stock management of both plants and seeds and add to sowing lists as necessary
  • Support volunteers with horticultural tasks
  • Undertake the role of an advocate and enable self-advocacy of beneficiaries/volunteers
  • Participate in on-site social media

Criteria

Must be between 18-24 years old May be claiming Universal Credit

Hours: 

  • 30-35 hours work experience per week supplemented by a weekly educational component.
  • Our traineeship is partnered with Qube Learning and Recruitment. After an initial assessment, Qube Learning will work with trainees on a weekly basis to upskill and improve areas such as English, Maths, Employability and Digital skills.
