Job description

This is an exiting opportunity to join our ambitious and diverse team at Poplar bakehouse. We work with incredible produce including our own freshly milled heritage wheat flour to make viennoiserie, cakes, pastries and sourdough bread. This role offers an opportunity to learn and grow within a team that not only aims to create gorgeous products but is also one that puts inclusivity, sustainability, a nurturing work environment and community at the heart of what we do. Many of our team at Poplar are graduates of the Just Bread programme which we have been running in conjunction with the refugee council since 2010, training migrants how to make sourdough bread and other skills relating to working in a bakery. If you are passionate about pastry and baking, are interested in learning how working in food can make a positive social and as well as environmental impact, and would like to be be part of this vision, this is the job for you.

The position requires a minimum of 2 years kitchen/commercial bakery experience, a year of which in pastry, preferably including laminated doughs. The role will involve working with both pastry and sourdough bread working with high-hydration doughs. 

It will be 4-5 days a week including weekends. We are a London living wage employer.

Our head bakers also share their knowledge and expertise in a weekly bread course.
