Job description

Healthy Me Healthy Communities is a not-for-profit social enterprise founded in 2012 making a positive difference to people’s health, lives and local communities. HMHC operates on the principles of coproduction, bringing together a range of partners, resources and assets for achieving positive outcomes in neighbourhoods across Manchester. At the heart of our work is involving people who benefit from our work, believing everyone has the skills and capacity for improving their own, families and communities’ outcomes.

HMHCs’ Strategic Vision is:

“Enabling people to improve their own and communities’ life expectancy and quality of life by reducing health and life inequalities, resulting in health and social-care savings”

So “everyone enjoying a long, healthy and happy life.”

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled, driven and experienced person to lead our income generation work. The Income Generation Manager will be a valuable member of HMHC's Senior Leadership Team, working collaboratively to deliver the organisation's strategic development plan, secure new income and develop beneficial partnerships. The postholder will lead on identifying and writing funding applications to VCSE funding bodies, develop new fundraising opportunities to diversify our funding portfolio including trusts and tendered contracts, overseeing grants cycle management and managing relationships with funding partners.

For clarity, the focus for this role is on VCSE grants, trusts and foundations and contracts and not individual giving and fundraising events, and we are seeking a person with expertise in the focused areas.

The Income Generation Manager will report to the Chief Executive Officer.

Key accountabilities

  • Writing quality and compelling grant applications to statutory and VCSE grant making organisations.
  • Writing funding pitches and requests to Trusts and Foundations utilising organisational service impact and evidence.
  • Researching and identifying funding opportunities.
  • Managing the project cycle including identification, application, monitoring and closure of funded projects working with the wider HMHC team.
  • Developing relationships with existing and emerging funding partners to increase funding received.
  • Work collaboratively with the CEO, SLT and wider team to ensure that income generation reflects the current priorities and objectives of the organisation.
  • Supporting the CEO and SLT team to become tender-ready and access tendered contracts.
  • Work alongside the Deputy Chief Executive Officer to ensure data and impact collection is aligned to funding body requirements and maximising HMHC’s profile.
  • Leadership and line management of team members.
  • Provide strategic and operational insight as part of Senior Leadership Team.
  • Undertake other duties as required to meet the organisational needs.

For this role, successful candidates will need to demonstrate their skills and experience of the following:

  • Track record of income generation in VCSE, social business or commercial sector.
  • Experience of writing tailored and compelling applications of substantial size (six-figures).
  • Knowledge of current funding themes, trends and priorities and these can impact on the success of a funding application.
  • Experience of prospect research, identifying funding opportunities and interpreting information.
  • Experience of developing business cases based on current and emerging need, as identified by the wider team.
  • Experienced in developing successful relationships with key grant funders, with a focus on identifying and cultivating new trust, VCSE and statutory fundraising opportunities to diversify our work.
  • Outstanding written communications skills.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Ability to prioritise, organise and manage own workload.
  • Excellent work ethic with the willingness to work flexibly and responsively to meet the needs of the organisation.
  • A good standard of education with evidence of professional development.
  • Willingness to undertake DBS check.
