Job description

Sussex Community Development Association (SCDA) runs a range of projects & services aimed at supporting the involvement of the whole of the community.  We are a flexible & friendly organisation seeking a number of talented individuals for the various new & existing projects & services we have secured funds to deliver.

Community Food Specialist Volunteer Coordinator

Full time 37 hours per week, funded for 1 year in first instance

Based Newhaven 3 days pw with 2 days per week worked supporting Fitzjohn’s Community Food in Lewes

Salary range £24,982 - £26,511 per annum (top of salary offer), dependent on qualification, skills and experience

Having previous experience of recruiting and coordinating volunteers, you will lead the recruitment, supervision, direction and support of a group of volunteers and potential volunteers who support a range of community food projects at SCDA (Newhaven & Peacehaven) and Fitzjohns (Lewes). The role will be split across these venues. 

With responsibility for designing and delivering appropriate training to volunteers, you will also organise & deliver other volunteer training where appropriate e.g. signposting support; ensuring that community food volunteers remain boundaried in their work as well as providing ongoing support, trouble shooting and development opportunities within their volunteering roles. Candidates should have experience of Safeguarding and working with a wide range of people, in addition to designing & delivering short training sessions for a volunteer audience.

Due to it’s nature, this role requires a DBS check. Being a car driver & owner is preferred for this role.

Interviews to be held in Newhaven as follows:  Tuesday 13th June 2023.

Successful candidates will be invited back to visit the Community Supermarket to see the volunteers and supermarket in progress before a preferred candidate is selected.
