Job description

Heckfield Estates maintains 438 acres of beautiful grounds including several acres of biodynamic market garden, a working farm and stunning pleasure grounds. This idyllic setting is home to luxury hotel Heckfield Place.

We are now looking for a Market Gardener to join our growing team. Someone with a genuine passion for growing produce, displaying an understanding of the mechanics of Horticulture in practice throughout all the seasons and be willing to follow our organic and biodynamic approach. Previous experience on similar position is required.

This is a very physical role based outdoors throughout the seasons therefore the ideal candidate must be comfortable working in all weather conditions and be able to comfortably undertake physical activities.

Some of the duties you will be involved in will include:

  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of crops
  • Undertaking a wide range of Horticultural tasks to an exceptional standard
  • Planting and aftercare of crops
  • Ground preparation
  • Propagation from seed, cuttings or division
  • Harvesting, cleaning and packing
  • Operating machinery (where required & if trained/certified to do so)

About Heckfield Park Farm Limited

The market garden is set over 5 acres, with a large state-of-the-art propagating glasshouse and five polytunnels supporting the vegetable and soft fruit growing, that supply the hotel's two restaurants with beautiful, truly seasonal and delicious produce. There is a young orchard, with more than 500 apple, pear and stoned fruit trees, which is home to our bees and organic chickens. The market garden certified organic and currently in Year 3 conversion to full biodynamic certification.
