Job description

Keythorpe Hall is looking for a Head Grower to join the team. We grow amazing produce using organic methods in a restored 2 acre Victorian walled garden. We focus on heritage and unusual varieties of fruit and vegetables that our head chef will work with to produce menus for our guests and also selling excess produce to local customers and restaurants. We select varieties for flavour and culinary use not yield! We also grow and sell cut flowers and are an active member of Flowers from the Farm.

The position is available for a permanent position and initial accommodation & relocation help can be provided. There are variable hours/shifts through the season, which may include weekend working.

The position will require constant communication with our head chef Bent Varming (formerly worked at the London restaurants Lyle’s and St.John and the Dusty Knuckle Bakery) and is an excellent oportunity to see how your produce is used and be a part of an amazing farm to fork operation. We are passionate about sustainability and are looking to build a great team.

Skills needed

  • Applicants should have more than 3 years practical growing experience in a market garden or similar small scale farm.
  • Have experience with regenerative farming, organic or biodynamic methods of growing.
  • Have a genuine interest in a sustainable approach to the growing of food and flowers
  • The role requires a high level of planning and organisation
  • The role is physically demanding and involves outdoors work in all weathers
  • Be able to multi-task and demonstrate good organisational skills
  • Be a team player and take pride in your work
  • Have the ability to follow instructions and complete tasks as directed

You will require your own reliable transport, as public transport is extremely limited.

    • Composting
    • Mulches
    • Weed control
  • Management of the crop lifecycle
    • Crop planning and selection of varieties for flavour
    • Propagation
    • Planting
    • Crop care
    • Managing pests and diseases
    • Harvesting

About Keythorpe Hall

Keythorpe Hall is a beautiful country house and gardens near the village of Tugby, on the Leicestershire/ Rutland border. We cater for short stays and offer a gastronomic farm to fork experience. We grow fruit, vegetables and flowers in our 2 acre walled garden and work with local farms and other artisan producers.
