About the role
Commitment: This is a voluntary role that would enable a committed individual to contribute to the development of Food Works, its mission, strategy, effectiveness and development. Food Works is an innovative, constantly evolving organisation that is increasingly seen as integral to the development of the city’s Food strategy. Your contributions as a Board member would make a difference to these important goals.
The Board of Directors at Food Works, comprising Executive and Non-Executive members, has been established to oversee the development and delivery of:
This oversight is to be done in the spirit of support and challenge, using external expertise and insight where appropriate and ensuring the promotion of values and behaviours in accordance with agreed statements and policies.
In addition, the Board of Directors has legal obligations with respect to financial probity, health and safety, and fair and equitable employment practice. All Board members are registered with Company House as Directors of Food Works.
The Board meets monthly for 2 hours and you would also be asked to attend relevant events and meetings with stakeholders and staff, as appropriate.
Salary and terms of office: this is a voluntary role. Initial Term of Office will be 3 years and this can be extended twice, by agreement of other Board members. The Maximum Term of Office for Non Executive Directors is therefore 9 years.

Who we need on our Board
We are expanding as an organisation and wish to increase the size of our Board. To achieve our mission we need a Board who actively support and embody Food Works’ aims and values. We need people who:
As a non-executive Director you would be bringing experience and expertise to the Board. We are interested in hearing from people from a wide range of backgrounds -for example, who have an academic interest in our area of work; commercial expertise that could be applicable; leadership roles in the third sector; significant volunteering experience etc. What is essential are your skills: the ability to think strategically, interpret data, provide measured assessment of proposals and take responsibility for Board decisions.
