Job description

Are you looking for a new opportunity in regenerative farming? We are expanding our team as we transition to become an organic, regenerative farming enterprise. This is a progressive, exciting time for the farm and the team. We aim to cultivate a farming system that not only produces nutrient dense food, but also benefits biodiversity, the soil and the landscape alike.

The Farm

Dalhanna is located in the picturesque Glen Afton, where we operate a largely pasture fed system with a breeding herd of 70 cattle and 800 breeding ewes. We operate a regenerative grazing model, rotating our stock over the hill land in a bid to improve the soil and sward ecosystems. We are in the process of planting more native trees and hedges to provide shelter, a mix of habitats and boost biodiversity. In addition, since 2022, we have been establishing a small, organically grown, tea garden with around 5,000 plants and are members of Tea Scotland.

The Role

The role is full time with rotational weekend work. We are looking for a dynamic person with a passion for regenerative farming. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Daily livestock stewardship.
  • Setting up and relocating portable electric fencing and water infrastructure.
  • Operation and maintenance of farm machinery.
  • Maintenance of fencing/other farm infrastructure.
  • Contributing to seasonal farm activities: lambing, calving, hay making, tea plucking, tree planting.
  • Regular monitoring of soils, swards and habitats on the farm.
  • Working with the tea growing team and tending to the plants when necessary.

The Ideal Candidate Would Have:

  • Experience in daily management of livestock, preferably in a regenerative system.
  • Knowledge of regenerative and agroforestry farming practices.
  • Practical skills for maintenance and infrastructure work.
  • The experience/training to operate farm machinery.
  • A strong work ethic and willingness to learn new skills.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team and individually.
  • IT proficiency
  • A UK driving license.

The Work Package:

This is an opportunity to work on a diverse farm with fantastic growth potential, at an exciting phase in its evolution. The role comes with:

  • A competitive salary ranging between £26,000/annum and £30,000/annum depending on experience.
  • Accommodation provided (rent free) - a newly refurbished, centrally heated attractive 3 bed cottage near local amenities (primary school and shops).
  • Pension provision.
  • Training in regenerative agriculture principles/practices and ATV/Tractor operation if required.
  • Relocation costs
