Job description

We are seeking a passionate Income and Sustainability Manager to join our team. We are currently run by volunteers and raise money to continue the work we do through shares, fundraising and donations, grants, product sales, running workshops and experiences, hosting family fun days, as well as rent from our partner businesses. Our aim is to reduce reliance on grant funding and build our income generating activities over the coming years to ensure the long-term viability and security of FarmEco.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing and implementing income generating and fundraising strategies to promote long-term financial sustainability of the organisation, our diverse range of programmes and initiatives. This will include, but is not limited to:

  • Assessing current income streams and, with support of the wider FarmEco team, creating a strategic plan to diversify and maximise income generation and reduce reliance on external fundraising
  • Exploring opportunities to maximise current infrastructure/resources to increase profitability of activities
  • Managing, developing, and seeking new donor relationships
  • Supporting the FarmEco team to improve financial sustainability of projects
  • Sourcing and securing external grant funding.

Key Responsibilities

Income Generation and Strategic Planning:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to build up the farm’s different income streams
  • Identify and research potential funding opportunities including grants, promoting facility hire to local organisations, sales of produce, events, donations and partnerships
  • Prepare and submit detailed and compelling grant proposals and funding applications
  • Assist the farm manager and CEO to find markets for produce from the farm.

Donor and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Secure, cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and partners (current and potential), including developing and maintaining communication strategies to promote our activities and engage new stakeholders
  • Provide regular updates and reports to donors, ensuring transparency and accountability and showcasing the impacts of their support
  • Assist the CEO to organise and manage fundraising events and campaigns to engage the community and attract new supporters, and represent the organisation at networking events, conferences, and community gatherings where appropriate.

Financial Management:

  • Oversee the financial aspects of fundraising initiatives, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Ensure compliance with funding requirements and manage the allocation of funds across various projects
  • Monitor and evaluate the financial performance of fundraising activities and adjust strategies as necessary.

Candidate Specification

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience in fundraising, grant writing, and donor management
  • Strong financial acumen and experience with budgeting and financial reporting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Knowledge of the social enterprise sector and a passion for community development and environmental conservation
  • Experience in seeking relevant sources of funding, creating grant applications (including detailed project plans and budgets), and impact reporting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

About FarmEco Community Farm

The farm is predominantly a tree based farm, producing top fruit, nuts and berries. It is set up as a social enterprise but at present, little income is made from the produce. We are restructuring so that we can meet our aims in a sustainable way. The stated objectives are 1)Enhancing public knowledge about food and farming by the establishment and operation of a farm that provides facilities to improve health and wellbeing; 2)Furthering the conservation and protection of the farms' wildlife.
