Job description

Neal’s Yard Dairy is an independent business that has been maturing, selecting and selling artisan cheeses from Britain and Ireland since 1979. We aim to reinvigorate the British and worldwide artisan cheese industry by challenging the way people expect to buy and sell cheese: selling by flavour and quality above price or marketing. As leaders within our industry, we sell the finest cheeses to our customers within the UK and around the world.

The role

We are recruiting a Wholesale Sales Assistant to work on a permanent, full-time basis based in our maturation arches in Bermondsey, London. If you have a keen interest in food and developing relationships with cheesemongers and chefs across the UK, whilst being part of an energetic and fast-paced team, this could be the perfect opportunity.

Farmhouse cheese is ever changing so a key part of the role is tasting cheese daily. We need to communicate effectively about flavour, seasonality and batch variation, using this info to advise our customers in order to grow their sales and meet our own targets. The successful applicant will be in touch with a variety of cheese buyers across the UK, from small delis to large restaurant groups.

You need to be meticulous, quick to learn, energetic, positive and most of all passionate about continuing to support our cheesemakers and our industry. You will be the first person customers come across when they contact Neal’s Yard Dairy so you need to have a warm approachable phone manner as well as feeling comfortable hosting visitors.

Producer visits are an integral part of the job. You will join the buying team on selection visits to cheesemakers that will inform your work and broaden your knowledge of our mission. 

An understanding of the food retail and restaurant industry is useful, a background in sales and cheese would be advantageous. Whatever your background, you must be passionate about cheese and delivering excellent service.

Candidates must:

• Be passionate about service
• Be proficient in MS Office suite
• Have good numeracy skills
• Be eligible for employment in the UK
• Have a full, clean driver's license

Our successful candidate will be offered:

• A starting salary of £28,250+
• 6 weeks holiday increasing to 7 weeks (subject to length of service)
