Job description

Brief: As one of our education team, you will be responsible for leading our school education programmes under the new overarching theme of ‘Explore and Engage: Learning through Nature’. You will be responsible for designing, promoting, recruiting and delivering these programmes to an agreed target.

Education:

  • Deliver an engaging and stimulating programme of activities to a range of secondary school groups with a focus on schools with high indices of deprivation. 
  • Promote and recruit visiting groups ensuring booking forms and risk assessments are completed fully. 
  • Ensure evaluation forms are completed after each visit and collate for any reporting requirements.
  • Support with grant applications for future funding.

Involving volunteers:

  • Support Education Support volunteers in their role.

Health and safety:

  • Ensure that all visits are undertaken with due regard to health and safety and ensure compliance with our own policies and H&S legislation.
  • In collaboration with the rest of the team, ensure that the setting is always a safe, clean, friendly and welcoming place for all people working and visiting the site.

Other:

  • Promote Susan’s Farm and partner organisations whenever possible. 
  • Abide by all our charity’s policies.
  • Undertake other duties as requested by your line manager and in line with the post.

Person Specification: Experience:

Essential

  • Experience of working with secondary students in an informal or formal education setting (NQTs can apply) Essential Experience of using a range of effective behaviour management strategies  
  • Experience of working in the natural environment
  • Experience of working with livestock    
  • Desirable
  • Experience of working alongside volunteers  

Knowledge and Understanding:

Essential  

  • Knowledge of farming, wildlife and/or nature  
  • Knowledge of safeguarding regulations and best practice  

Skills and Qualifications:

Essesntial

  • Teaching or Youth Work qualification or equivalent  
  • Creative and innovative to meet the educational needs of all   
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills  

Desirable

  • Use of social media for customer engagement   

Personal Qualities:

Essential

  • A flexible ‘can do’ approach 
  • Willingness to work flexibility when needed, working around the weather and in response to the needs of the farm 
  • A real passion to help promote a farm, rich in wildlife for everyone   Personable, energetic and engaging 
  • Has a genuine interest in environmental issues  

Desirable

  • Driving licence with D1 (for small mini-bus)
