Job description

We are looking for an experienced project officer to support work on agriculture and aquatic foods. 

The successful candidate will: 

  • support the ‘Fish+ in a Good Food Nation’ panel which aims to build consensus between industry and civil society about the future of aquatic foods in Scotland by: synthesising evidence, supporting logistical delivery of the panel, providing website copy, contributing to final report 
  • support the Scottish Agroecology Partnership of 7 organisations working to embed agroecology in Scottish policy and practice by: co-developing Continuous Professional Development course on agroecology, supporting logistical delivery of the Partnership 
  • supporting the development of Nourish’s policy positions on agriculture and aquatic foods by synthesising evidence, making data and information accessible to non-academic audience, facilitating team discussion, writing policy briefs 
  • supporting Nourish’s advocacy efforts by participating in relevant coalitions, engaging with MSPs, writing consultation responses 

As part of a small, agile team the successful candidate will be able to adapt to changing priorities, work collaboratively with colleagues and demonstrate a reflective attitude to work. Whilst the post is associated with a high degree of autonomy, the project officer will be supported by other colleagues in the team with relevant expertise and specialist knowledge.

Person specification: experience, skills & knowledge

Essential  

  • Ability to find and summarise key points in reports, journal articles, policy papers, etc. 
  • Broad understanding of current policy context for agriculture, agroecology and/or aquatic foods in Scotland 
  • Experience of event logistics and ensuring participants feel taken care of 
  • Ability to communicate complex topics in accessible and nuanced ways 
  • Experience attempting to influence policy – responding to consultations, contributing to the development of policy positions, working with other stakeholders and / or  through coalitions  
  • Experience working with and maintaining relationships with different stakeholders 
  • Ability to manage own workload and work with high degree of autonomy 
  • Ability to embrace reflective practice (including in one’s own work) and implement changes as a result of that process 

Desirable 

  • Ability to write concisely and in a variety of formats (reports, CPD modules, blogs, policy briefings etc) 
  • Experience engaging with local representatives (MPs, MSPs, local councillors) 
  • Experience of supporting the facilitation and design of  interactive and engaging workshops  
  • Interest in the benefits of peer-to-peer learning and / or experiential learning
