Job description

Brief

As one of our education team, you will be responsible for delivering our adult care farming education programmes. You will be responsible for designing and delivering these programmes to our communities, to an agreed target.

Education

  • Plan and deliver an engaging and stimulating programme of farm and nature-based activities to a range of adult care farmers
  • Work alongside our farmer in farm tasks suitable for care farmers, including with cattle and sheep
  • Liaise with other agencies, such as Adult Social Care
  • Take responsibility for referral process for new care farmers
  • Maintain and develop appropriate records to support both care farmer health and well-being, and to support data requirements, which may change from time to time
  • Support with grant applications for future funding

Involving volunteers

  • Engage care farm volunteers and work experience students in their roles

Health and safety

  • Ensure that all sessions are undertaken in line with  Health and Safety Regulations 
  • Ensure that all sessions are undertaken in line with Susan’s Farm H&S policies, which may provide additional guidance to meet specific requirements of CF cohorts.
  • Ensure compliance with SF safeguarding policies ( e.g. Adult at risk of harm, safeguarding and Prevent  Policy, Safe Driving at Work Policy
  • and Technology and social media policy)

Other

  • In collaboration with the rest of the team, ensure that the farm is always a safe, clean, friendly, and welcoming place for all people working and visiting the site
  • Promote Susan’s Farm and partner organisations whenever possible
  • Abide by all our charity’s policies
  • Undertake other duties as requested by your line manager and in line with the post

Person Specification

Experience

  • Experience of working with vulnerable adults/young people in an education setting (formally or informally) -Essential
  • Experience of working in the natural environment - Essential
  • Experience of working with livestock (cattle and sheep) - Essential
  • Experience of working alongside volunteers - Desirable
  • Experience of carrying out farming operations such as lambing, haymaking - Essential

Knowledge and Understanding

  • Knowledge of farming, wildlife and/or nature - Essential
  • Knowledge of organic farming - Desirable
  • Knowledge of safeguarding regulations and best practice - Essential

Skills and Qualifications

  • Teaching qualification or equivalent - Desirable
  • Creative and innovative to meet the educational needs of all - Essential 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills - Essential
  • Use of social media for customer engagement - Desirable

Personal Qualities

  • A flexible ‘can do’ approach - Essential
  • Able to work as part of a team - Essential
  • Willingness to work flexibility when needed, working around the weather and in response to the needs of the farm - Essential

We offer Primary and Secondary school visits on a variety of topics, Alternative Provision for children not attending school for a variety of reasons and Care Farming for adults with mental health/other needs. We also sell our produce direct to customers.
