Job description

We are looking for a self-motivated problem solver to join our Land Use Plus Team. If you have excellent interpersonal skills, a love of finding solutions to complex problems and a flexible approach, read on.

Your role will support the work of our Esmée Fairbairn Foundation funded Land Use Plus project, seeking out solutions to support a local food system which champions nature recovery at a landscape scale. Following a two-year scoping period, we are now focusing on several key threads including opportunities for local public procurement, vegetable growing and preventing the closure of Sussex’s last remaining abattoir. You will need to connect with people from different professions including farmers, biodiversity specialists, council officers and customers, and find opportunities as you gather information.

You’ll also be leading on Sussex Grazed, a local meat box scheme for high welfare, sustainable meat. Funded by Changing Chalk, the scheme is designed to conserve and restore our rare chalk grasslands while giving farmers a fair price. You’ll have previous experience working with farmers or food producers, and in marketing, retail or sales.

Communicating our work to the citizens of Brighton and Hove and forging connections between the city and countryside is extremely important, so social media and copy writing skills are highly desirable.

The post holder will be committed to the work of the Food Partnership and will be supported with regular supervision and training.

30 hours per week worked flexibly including occasional evenings and weekends

Starting salary £29,600 FTE pro rata for 30 hr week £23,680

What other benefits do we offer?

  • FTE 25 days holiday plus all bank holidays (for 30hrs pw this is 20 days holiday plus pro-rata bank holiday)
  • BHFP offer an Automatic Enrolment Pension Scheme contributing 3% if the employee contributes 5%
