Job description

Do you want to contribute to an innovative community project that brings people together, through food and activities in South London?

Be Enriched is looking for an organised and creative individual to play an integral role on our Mobile Food Projects team as a Project Assistant.

Projects include the Food Bus and Food Float which are lower cost, mobile greengrocers. The Food Bus is a unique double decker bus working in tandem with our Food Float which is a refurbished milk float. Both reach areas experiencing food insecurity or inaccessibility to food.

We believe that affordable, nutritious food should be accessible to everyone, so we bring the shop to those who need it. Each week the Food Bus and the Food Float offers groceries, cupboard staples and more, at a low cost. The Food Bus also has a cafe on the top deck, allowing people to buy a coffee and catch up with friends.  Learn more about our mission and projects at:  www.be-enriched.org 

The Project Assistant will work with the team and assist with the day-to-day logistics of the service and provide excellent customer service. This role will entail a broad variety of tasks so we will require a flexible, positive attitude.

General responsibilities include:

  • Working on Food Bus/Food Float greeting customers, customer support and payments
  • Assisting with food inventory
  • Handling and tracking customer requests such as stock suggestions
  • Contributing to the accuracy of the POS system
  • Encouraging membership enrollment
  • Communication with customers though WhatsApp group
  • Organising records such as sales receipts
  • Follow up with Manager to respond to bus stop requests and changes
  • Assist and support special events
  • Assist and support in delivering engaging Kids Club activities during school breaks
  • Opportunity to create and post social media stories and updates

Person Specification

  • Flexible, enthusiastic and proactive approach
  • Excellent organisational skills with an eye for detail
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Prior retail experience
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive problem solving
  • Experience working or volunteering in a community setting
  • An interest in subjects of food insecurity and nutrition

A DBS check will be necessary for this role and completion of Food Safety certification.

Role is three days a week with days to be negotiated between Tuesday to Friday from 9am to 5pm with review after initial six-month contract is completed.
