A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN THE HOSPITALITY SECTOR FROM AN EXPERIENCED BUSINESSMAN WHILST DEVELOPING YOUR OWN ENTREPRENURIAL THINKING AND LIVING IN A BEAUTIFUL GRADE 2 LISTED BUILDING  IN THE SHROPSHIRE HILLS AONB.

I’m looking for a hostel manager, host and cleaner so I can combine all of these roles to create a full time permanent position in due course.  For now it's a zero hours contract which will suit someone in a job where they aren't fulfilled with the prospects of making the switch to YHA Clun Mill permanently.

The successful applicant will work with me to in delivering my proven hostel plans for increasing guest numbers, and opening more days to drive footfall.

Hostel manager

You would play a key role in making our guest experiences memorable.

Your efforts will be at the core of our mission to provide exceptional hospitality.

Experience of working face to face with customers is essential.

Offering insights about the hostel and the local area.

Ensuring every guest feels informed and welcomed.

Experience of people management is desirable.

Basic IT skills.

Friendly and enthusiastic on the phone.

Do you have experience of working in a prestigious hospitality business and do you enjoy providing a high level of customer service?

 

Housekeeping duties

Our staff undertake a wide range of customer facing duties within the hostel delivering an excellent service to all guests.

Carrying out housekeeping duties ensuring a comfortable clean environment for all visitors.

Cleaning and preparing bedrooms between guest departures and arrivals.

Keeping all areas of the hostel clean and tidy.

On other evenings you may be asked to prepare or serve food for smaller numbers of hostel guests.

Part of our plan is to cook breakfast and dinner for guests on site.

We also plan to introduce walking tours and cycling tours based at Clun Mill so experience and qualifications in these areas would be beneficial.

Summary

We’re an ambitious seasonal but growing business.

We’ve listed a lot of duties so that we can progress towards sustainable full time employment even in our quiet weeks.

As we get busier we will need to recruit more people and you will then be able to focus on the roles where you have most experience and just provide back up in other areas.

For now it’s important that you understand all parts of the business to help us put systems and training in place.

You will be required to live on site in a self-contained flat as you will be on call up until 10pm on nights when we have guests staying (mainly Friday and Saturday nights). You will need to pay rent at a favourable rate. The small flat has 2 bedrooms.

Finally it’s a great opportunity for an entrepreneur to learn how to set up a business if that’s your long term objective.  Three years of working with me will teach you all you need to know.

I hope to create a workers co-operative model to take over all our businesses in the near future so our current employees may have the chance of owning the business.
