Job description

Purpose of Post:

The Affordable Food Network Coordinator will support and oversee the development of the Affordable Food Network (made up of social or community supermarkets and other affordable food initiatives in Essex), providing centralised support to social supermarkets and other affordable food initiatives. The coordinator will work as part of a countywide team to develop and embed a culture of peer support, peer learning, and network capability, ensuring the network's sustainability and impact.

Main Duties

Be the lead in supporting the growth of the affordable food network across Essex

  1. To provide support to established social/community supermarkets and affordable food clubs through information and advice to enable them to run efficiently and increase their reach and impact.
  2. To support the development of new social/community supermarkets and affordable food clubs across the county, ensuring consistent and high quality advice is given in relation to governance and structure, health and safety and project management.
  3. Build relationships across the network of affordable food clubs, set up, run and promote events and networking opportunities and encourage participation.
  4. To work with social/community supermarkets and affordable food club projects to promote and showcase opportunities for wrap around support, healthy eating, food education and other support services.
  5. In conjunction with the social/community supermarkets and affordable food clubs work with new and existing projects to facilitate access to training to increase knowledge and skills.
  6. Work as part of a countywide team to strengthen sustainability and impact
  7. To take part in regular County steering group meetings with Essex County Council, The Active Wellbeing Society and other key stakeholders to report updates, concerns and influence planning and development of the countywide programme
  8. To support the Food Strategy Manager in collecting records, collating and analysing information about project activity, impact and outcomes and producing reports as needed.
  9. To support the Countywide purchasing and storage work being led by Harlow Foodbank/Bounty club feeding in ideas and contacts and helping to promote as appropriate.
