Job description

We are looking for someone to focus on securing and delivering high quality advice and support services for community, public and private sector landowners who are looking to steward land and buildings for shared community benefit, and to help Shared Assets grow and remain sustainable by developing new business, new products and services, and new income streams.

The role holder will need to have experience of working with public sector clients as well as supporting community organisations. The main areas of work are to provide clients with support to develop business plans, and legal and governance structures, that will; enable them to manage land sustainably, create land based livelihoods, develop decision making processes that give local people a voice in how land is used, and to ensure that land is managed in ways that create shared benefits for communities, landowners and the land. Whilst this role is primarily focussed on securing and delivering commercial consultancy work we are also looking to develop grant funded programmes to enable us to widen access to advice and support to those most marginalised from the current land system by providing free or low cost support. We currently act as a support provider to the Community Ownership Fund and the City Bridge Fund (and have previously acted as a support provider to the Making Local Woods Work and Big Local programmes amongst others), supporting their grantees to develop the legal structures, governance and business models they need to sustainably own and manage land and buildings. We also work with local authorities across the UK to develop new business and governance models for their parks and open spaces, and to build new partnerships with their local communities to animate and manage their parks, and with private landowners who wish to explore community ownership as an alternative to the sale or inheritance of their land.
