Job description

Square Mile Farms is on a mission to reconnect people with food. We put vertical growing systems in to urban areas, such as corporate offices, co working spaces and apartment buildings, so people can grow and consume their own zero miles, ultra fresh salad greens and herbs where they live and work. We are growing quickly and need help managing our urban farms. This is an exciting opportunity to join an environmentally conscious start up and work closely with plants growing in the city.

Within the farm operations team:

  • Support the management, maintenance and harvesting of our client farms across our northern cities eg: Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Birmingham 
  • Working closely with our Farm Operations Team Lead (based in London)
  • Access client buildings to carry out documented checks to ensure the farm system is working correctly and the plants are growing healthily
  • Top up the farm system with water if required
  • Be diligent to ensure the farm is looking as good as it can. Cleaning of the systems.
  • Transport and substitute new seedlings
  • Record data of each farm
  • Lead harvest sessions with the client communities
  • Represent SMF and interact with clients when on site
  • Liaise with rest of the team to give feedback and for general coordination of client sites

Requirements:

  • Based in or close to Manchester or Birmingham
  • Previous experience or knowledge of horticulture or hydroponics is essential
  • Be passionate about agriculture, horticulture and / or nature
  • Ability and willingness to be on your feet for most of the day and travel between client sites
  • Be happy to work autonomously, but within the team and with client communities
  • Well organised
  • Conscientious attitude and keen to learn
  • Diligence and attention to detail
  • Driving licence ideal but not essential
  • Fluency in English is a must
