Job description

Farm Shop Assistant (part-time, with room to grow) North Aston, Oxfordshire

We’re looking for a friendly, practical and proactive person to join our farm shop team this autumn. It’s a varied role that’s perfect for someone who loves good food, enjoys working with people, and wants to be part of a values-driven business rooted in organic farming and community.

This isn’t just a shop job – it’s about sharing great food with people who care about where it comes from, and helping a new farm shop flourish.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Restocking shelves and keeping displays fresh and inviting
  • Welcoming customers and helping them find what they need
  • Checking in deliveries and keeping stock organised
  • Running our farmers’ market stall and promoting the farm shop and our suppliers
  • Collecting produce and supporting logistics
  • Pitching in with a bit of admin and other practical tasks

As the shop grows, the role may expand into ordering, food preparation, events and even shop management.

What We’re Looking For

  • Reliable, organised and able to work independently
  • Friendly and approachable – great with customers
  • Physically able to lift and move stock (sometimes outdoors and in all weather)
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about agroecological farming, organic food and local food systems
  • Excited to learn and keen to bring your own ideas

Essential:

  • Clean UK driving licence (van/pickup driving experience ideal)

Nice to have (but not required):

  • Tractor/telehandler driving experience
  • Retail, food or hospitality background
  • Local knowledge and ties to the community
  • Extra skills that could strengthen the shop (e.g. food prep, events, marketing, communications, or practical workshop skills)

Training: If not already held, we will provide Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene training.

Why Work With Us?

  • Starting at UK Minimum Wage, rising to the Oxford Living Wage (£13.16/hr) after training, with further wage increases with experience
  • Discounted farm shop produce
  • Regular hours to start with: Fridays 9am–5pm and Saturdays 8am–4pm (with potential to expand to Sundays and Mondays as the shop grows)
  • Subsidised accommodation in the village may be available for the right candidate
  • Options to be employed via payroll or self-employed, depending on circumstances
  • Be part of a growing community of like-minded growers and makers

Progression

We’re especially keen to find someone who wants to stay, grow with the business, and take on more responsibility over time - however we are open to a fixed-term contract also. For the right person, this role could develop into a long-term, full-time position with greater responsibility, increased hours and pay, and the chance to help shape the farm shop’s future and other complementary enterprises.

Application information

Please send a CV and a few lines about yourself (or just an email introducing who you are and why you’d like the role) to Nick (nick@northastonfarms.co.uk). Interviews will be taking place ASAP, with job due to start soon after (no later than 17th October).

About North Aston Farm Shop

North Aston Farms is an organic farm & estate in Oxfordshire, with enterprises including a market garden, micro-dairy (producing milk, yoghurt, cream and ice cream for local delivery), a beef sucker herd, a sheep flock and a small amount of arable. Alongside the farm & estate, North Aston Farm Shop is being developed as a separate venture, building on the success of the farm’s honesty shop. As well as showcasing fresh, seasonal produce from the farm together with carefully chosen local goods, the shop will also provide a welcoming community hub — a place for people to connect, learn, and share in the life of the estate — strengthening the direct link between customers and the food grown at North Aston.
