Job description

WE ARE HIRING FOR OUR SEASONAL RETAIL TEAM

Every Christmas, we bring together a large seasonal team of Retail Cheesemongers to help us sell cheese in our shops across London. It’s a monumental operation in the Neal’s Yard Dairy calendar, part jigsaw puzzle and part festive marathon, and it takes the energy, teamwork and enthusiasm of many brilliant people to make it happen.

We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic and dedicated people to join our shops from late November through December, working typically 3 to 6 days per week.

No prior cheese experience is required, but you should have a genuine interest in food, be confident talking to customers, and be keen to learn. Previous retail or hospitality experience will be an advantage. The work is fast-paced, busy, and physical...but it is also highly rewarding and fun.

You’ll become part of a tight-knit team, helping customers choose the perfect cheeses, maintaining shop displays, and keeping counters replenished. We’re looking for people who thrive in a busy shop environment, enjoy teamwork, and can sell our products honestly and enthusiastically.

Details:

  • Most fixed-term contracts run from 30th November to 31st December 2025; with some roles starting as early as November 24th depending on the shop and role.
  • You’ll need full availability from 15th to 24th of December inclusive. These are our busiest days, and we’re not able to accommodate requests for days off during this period.
  • You’ll need to be available on Sunday 30th of November which is our Seasonal Retail Induction Day in Bermondsey.
  • Shifts are typically 9 hours including a 45-minute unpaid break.
  • Opening shifts may start as early as 6am and closing shifts can finish as late as 8pm.
  • Please note that all staff will be scheduled to work in the period between Christmas and New Year.

Benefits:

  • An hourly rate of £13.40 per hour (plus holiday pay of approximately £1.60 per hour paid at the end of the contract)
  • A generous staff discount
  • Full on-the-job training
  • A lunch will be provided every day and there will be a steady supply of coffee, tea, fresh bread and cheese available to everyone

A couple of important things to note before submitting your application:

  • This role involves the handling and selling of alcohol.
  • For our Retail Cheesemongers to understand the flavour and texture profiles of our cheeses and thus better be able to recommend options to customers, there is a requirement to regularly taste our full range of cheeses including those that contain animal rennet.
  • All applications will require proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
