Job description
Welcome
We’re looking for two to three passionate and talented people from diverse backgrounds to join the FEAST With Us Board of Trustees to guide and support us in our mission to improve the nutrition, wellbeing and health of people at risk of food insecurity.
As FEAST continues to grow to respond to the increasing need, we are expanding our Board to promote our future success in addressing our charitable objects. We are looking to recruit two to three new Trustees and invite applications from people who can bring valuable skills and diverse experiences that would help us increase our charitable impact.
Trustees are collectively responsible for the Charity pursuing its aims well, in good faith, and using its resources appropriately. This includes each trustee:
About you
We are looking for people who believe in the mission and values of FEAST. We’re particularly interested in hearing from applicants with the following skills and experience:
If you don’t have any experience in any of these areas but feel you would have something valuable to bring to FEAST then we would still like to hear from you.
We welcome and encourage applications from people from backgrounds and lived experience that represent the people we support, and those with an understanding of the neighbourhoods and communities we work with and support, i.e. through living or working there. We work predominantly in the London Borough of Camden and its surrounding boroughs, and over 40% of our service users come from a BAME background with lived experience including homelessness, mental health challenges and long-term health conditions.
What’s in it for you?
Time commitment
The Trustee roles are voluntary and we ask that you’re able to commit to providing at least 1-2 days per month to attend board meetings, joint Trustee and team meetings and events, mentor the operational staff team and act as a proactive ambassador for FEAST.
Currently, we hold six Board meetings a year lasting 2 hours. These are mostly online but we do try to make at least one Board meeting a year face to face in central London. In addition, we also have an annual awayday with the operations staff team, in London or surrounding area. Trustees are able to claim reasonable expenses for in person meetings and events.
Trustees are appointed for an initial three-year term, with the option to serve a further two terms, up to a total of nine years.
FEAST Mission and Values
OUR VISION: FEAST = FEEDING & EMPOWERING ALL SUSTAINABLY TOGETHER
OUR MISSION: Improve the nutrition, health and wellbeing of people at risk of food insecurity in the UK.
OUR VALUES:
About Us
We work in 16 venues across London, partnering with charities and community organisations to deliver impactful services and programmes; in homeless hostels, mental health day centres, community and faith centres in Camden, Islington, Barnet, Westminster and Hackney.
We tackle food insecurity by providing nutritious meals and nurturing community connections. Our community meals use mostly donated surplus food. These are more than just a meal; they’re welcoming, inclusive, social spaces that bring people together and reduce loneliness. We also deliver meals to hostels and community centres for individuals experiencing food insecurity to collect.
Our Healthy Eating on a Budget Programme empowers people by building nutrition knowledge, and developing practical cooking, food hygiene and budgeting skills. They build confidence to help people make healthier choices to achieve nutritional independence.
FEAST is also committed to broader systemic change through nutrition research and collaborative food partnerships to ensure local residents have access to nutritious, affordable and sustainable food. We’re a small but ambitious charity, doubling in scale in the past two years, with a passionate, supportive and collaborative operations team of 15 supported by c300 volunteers, who care deeply about what we do.
FEAST has an operational team of 15 who work in our partner venues delivering meals and healthy eating programmes, or remotely with some co-working in our corporate charity partner’s office. As we are a small charity, we ask that our trustees are prepared to engage with and mentor the operational team, in line with their skills and experience, to provide additional support, insights and people development.
