Are looking to recruit  for a 2 day a week role leading gardening in a secondary school in Hammersmith with the opportunity for additional session leading adult education classes

This is a freelance position and the post holder would be required to hold a teaching qualification

JOB DESCRIPTION FOR SCHOOL GARDENER

  • To plan and deliver gardening sessions in schools in consultation with the head teacher or link member of school staff
  • To plan and deliver activities for family play schemes in consultation with the manager and other staff
  • Promote environmentally friendly gardening and lifestyle practices
  • To promote the wider aims of the Association and contribute to its long term development
  • To work in co-operation with the manager, other staff and the committee
  • To undertake monitoring and administrative tasks necessary for the smooth running of the organisation including quarterly reports

Personal Specification

  • Teaching quualification
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to working as part of a small team
  • Good knowledge of gardening practice using environmentally friendly methods
  • Experience of working in a community/ school setting and the ability to work supportively with a wide range of people and groups including vulnerable people with a range of low level mental health and / or physical health needs
  • Self motivated and able to work under own initiative / be reliable
  • Ability to get on with members of the general public

The post will be subject to a DBS check.

Hammersmith Community Gardens Association is an environmental charity set up in 1984, we manage four community gardens in Hammersmith and Fulham. HCGA has a range of projects which include conservation training schemes, volunteer gardening sessions, health and wellbeing projects, environmental play schemes and environmental education in local schools. We promote environmental sustainability within the borough and manage our sites to maximise biodiversity and encourage wildlife.
