Job description
2026 will see some exciting changes to the way we grow fresh organic food for our two cities of Gtr Manchester and Gtr Liverpool. Greatly increasing the quantities of food we grow, closely working together across both sites, utilising the strengths of a market garden and a 78 acre farm to create a truly sustainable community of food producers.
While this job description is specifically for our Kindling Market Garden in Stockport, we are also currently recruiting for growers at Kindling Farm in Merseyside, so there may be opportunities to work across the two sites depending on your skills, hours available, your preference and the needs of the different sites.
We are looking for growers with some level of commercial growing experience and skills to join our small team at our 2 acre Kindling Market Garden in Stockport.
The Kindling Trust works to create a fairer, more sustainable society, starting with the food system. Over the last 15 years, Kindling has established a series of projects & enterprises to engage people in sustainable food and farming. This includes our thriving Woodbank Community Food Hub; Kindling Market Garden and volunteer programme; Veg Box People; and Kindling Farm.
Our site is an ex council nursery that has been transformed over the last seven years into a bustling food hub. As well as the two acre Market Garden, the site is also home to many other Kindling Trust projects and events. Year on year we have been ramping up production. We can’t keep this level of growth up with our small team and are looking for a hard working, passionate person to join us as we reach the potential for the site. This season we are also looking to grow in a different way that is both more efficient and less physically impactful on our team of growers.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a commercial market garden in a transformative period. We are looking for the right person with the experience, skills and tenacity to work with us to make this happen.
Initially this is a seasonal position but we are hoping to make it a permanent role (with seasonal hours), by the end of the 2026 growing season if possible.
Main duties include:
Working alongside the Market Garden Team to action all elements of our crop plan and deliver our produce to our customers.
General responsibilities:
Sowing and Propagation
Managing bed preparation, transplanting and maintenance.
Participating in strict record keeping
Picking and packing
Deliveries
Fulfilling such other duties as may be required from time to time.
