Job description

Location – Iddesleigh, Devon

Salary – £9,524 (£22,223 pro rata)

Contract – Part time (20 hours per week) and term time only (39 weeks per year), Permanent

Farms for City Children offers children and young people a week in the heart of the British countryside staying on one of our farms, where they are immersed in the natural world of food, farming, and country life.  During their stay,  they participate in the seasonal tasks of the day: sowing, growing and harvesting in our kitchen gardens, caring for livestock and looking after the land, and a variety of tasks designed to build greater connection with the natural world.

We are looking for a General Assistant to join our friendly team on our Devon farm.

About the Role

The General Assistant supports both the kitchen team and the housekeeping team at Nethercott House.

The person in this role will work closely with the Kitchen team to ensure the needs of resident groups are met and that the highest standards of nutrition, food quality, food hygiene and food safety are maintained. The person in this role will also work with the Office Manager and Housekeeper ensure the needs of resident groups are met and that the highest standards of health and safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained. This is a physical role, which will have limited direct contact with our visiting children and adults; it is a behind the scenes role in helping to maintain a warm and friendly relationship throughout their stay.

 

The 15 hours per week would be worked during term time only on these days:

Monday 13:30 – 19:00 (kitchen)

Wednesday 9:00-14:30 or 9:30-15:00 (kitchen)

Thursday 9:00-14:00 or 9:30-14:30 (housekeeping)

Friday 9:00-13:00 or 9:30-13:30 (housekeeping)

What we Offer

In return you will receive a starting salary of £9,524 (£22,223 pro rata) paid in 12 monthly instalments across the year and a range of benefits, which include:

  • Holiday pay for 25 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays pro rata, paid in 12 monthly instalments across the year.
  • 6% employer contribution to NEST pension scheme
