Job description

Our Farm - Irongate is a mixed farm in Hertfordshire, with pasture fed rotationally-grazed cattle and arable land managed on regenerative principles. We are establishing a market garden, and we’re looking to further diversify enterprises running on the farm in future. We are one of the host farms of Groundswell, and we are in the process of developing some barns into Groundschool, a centre for year-round learning in regenerative food and farming. The Role - We’re looking for a dynamic and proactive worker to join our farm team, and to support with bringing the land-based side of Groundschool to life in future. This role will appeal to someone with farm experience, an experimental mindset and a motivation to explore diverse, regenerative approaches to land use.

This is a full time position with rent-free accommodation available on site. The salary will be negotiable based on experience, and will include holiday.

The ideal candidate would have

  • Experience or knowledge in regenerative practices, and an interest in improving soil health and diversity on farm

  • Experience working with cows in a rotational grazing system

  • An interest in being involved in the Groundschool project as it develops

  • Tractor driving experience and workshop skills

This role will include

  • Mob-grazing cows using temporary electric fencing

  • General farm maintenance and animal husbandry - handling, tagging, fencing, hedge maintenance and tree planting

  • Tractor driving - drilling, compost turning, bale carting etc.

This role might expand into

  • Supporting with on-farm trials and experiments

  • Finding a route to market for produce
