General Manager – Glebe House Devon

Full-Time | On-Site | East Devon £40,000 + approx. £3,000 tronc + performance bonus Start date: Jan/Feb 2026

Glebe House is a multi award-winning boutique hotel and restaurant set within 15 acres of beautiful East Devon countryside. Our homegrown and handmade approach runs through everything we do – from our seasonal kitchen and thoughtful guest experiences, to our slow-growth philosophy and commitment to sustainability and community

As we expand (with new guest cabins and a wood-fired sauna launching later this year), we’re looking for a values-aligned, highly capable General Manager to lead our small but mighty team into this next chapter.

🌿 About the Role

You’ll be the operational heartbeat of Glebe House, overseeing the day-to-day running of our accommodation, restaurant, and guest experience — while ensuring the systems, people, and processes that underpin it all run smoothly and intentionally.

This is a truly hands-on role. One moment you might be greeting guests or jumping into dinner service; the next, you’ll be reviewing financial reports, updating rotas, or refining back-office systems.

You’ll work closely with our founder to shape strategy, support team development, and embed systems and standards that allow our business to grow sustainably — and continue delivering thoughtful, memorable experiences for our guests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support services across our restaurant and accommodation
  • Maintain and raise our guest service standards with warmth and attention to detail
  • Coordinate rotas and liaise with department heads across FOH, kitchen, and housekeeping
  • Oversee stock, purchasing, and supplier relationships
  • Use PMS, POS, and financial data to support operational decisions
  • Manage housekeeping and maintenance schedules
  • Help implement new systems and SOPs — and ensure the team are trained and supported
  • Deliver operational roll-out of new projects (cabins, sauna, gift shop, experiences)
  • Work directly with the owner on strategic growth plans

Who We’re Looking For

  • A proven leader in small-scale, high-quality hospitality (GM, AGM, Ops Manager etc.)
  • Deep care for guest experience and genuine alignment with sustainable hospitality values
  • Comfortable running service and supporting in any department where needed
  • Highly literate with systems (PMS, POS, stock), with the ability to use reporting tools to inform strategy
  • Exceptionally organised with strong follow-through and communication
  • Calm, kind, and solutions-focused — you enjoy supporting a team to do their best work
  • Excited by long-term growth, regenerative business, and working somewhere that values care as much as profit

Glebe House is a 7-bedroom guest house, restaurant, and 15-acre smallholding located in the heart of East Devon. Inspired by the Italian Agroturismo, we maximise our land by growing our own vegetables and keeping livestock. We use these homegrown ingredients to cook food from scratch. Our kitchen ethos is centered around craft cooking. Those idea of taking those everyday food products that we often take for granted—such as butter, bread, yogurt, bacon, and sausages etc—and making them from scratch using exceptional ingredients.
