Job description

Woodcraft & Woodland Management Tutor - Clervaux Garden School

40 hours per week (term time only)

Fulltime equivalent salary = £29,215 - £34,938

Actual salary for working 40 weeks per year = £25,633 - £30,654

Being an active member of the Woodland Team, you will be working with a small group of students, delivering woodland-based qualifications, woodcraft, and woodland management skills along with other land and craft- based activities including green woodwork and primitive technology experiences throughout the seasons. This role will be working outdoors so you must be comfortable working outdoors in all weathers, as well as being experienced working with hand-tools and having experience working with woodland machinery, including chainsaws (in-house training/guidance can be provided).

The key duties in this role will include:

  • Delivering teaching and training with a therapeutic and supportive approach, wherever possible linking students learning activities through our method; Practical Skills Therapeutic Education
  • To be a part of ongoing assessment of students learning needs and to make reasonable adjustments as required minimising barriers to learning and achievement, being familiar with student background information, profile and risk assessment wherever reasonably possible
  • To work with the Clervaux Garden school’s Land Manager to manage the day-to-day running of the Woodlands and any adjacent school woodland areas with regards to managing the land, the care and the development of infrastructure, (public) footpaths, hedges, trees and wild areas
  • Processing of raw materials for the green wood workshop

Applicants for this post should have:

  • Experience of working with young people and vulnerable adults with special needs, challenging behaviours and mental health difficulties
  • An appreciation of Biodynamic principles is required, however, training will be provided, as the applicant will take part in the Ruskin Mill Trust Biodynamic Training Programme (2 years)
  • Ideally hold, be working towards, or prepared to work towards relevant teaching qualifications in accordance with government regulations

You will be expected to attend training sessions as required by the Trust, which may be outside of your usual working hours.
