Job description

About Us

Brighter Futures is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting young people and adults with learning disabilities to gain skills, confidence, and independence. Our training cafés and catering sites provide real-world work experience.

As we open our newest site, we are looking for a Head Chef to lead food production and kitchen training, someone who shares our passion for food and people — someone who wants to use their skills to make a real difference every day.

The Role

As our Chef, you’ll be responsible for overseeing food preparation across our training sites and cafés. You’ll create exciting, high-quality menus, ensure excellent kitchen standards, and most importantly, train and inspire our young learners.

You’ll have the freedom to design your own menus, experiment with seasonal ingredients, and use your creativity in a supportive, positive environment.

Responsibilities and Duties

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and prepare delicious, healthy, and affordable meals for our sites and events.
  • Lead and support kitchen teams across multiple locations.
  • Train, mentor, and work alongside young people with learning disabilities — helping them build skills and confidence in the kitchen.
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene and safety.
  • Manage stock, budgets, and suppliers efficiently.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging kitchen environment.

About You

We’re looking for someone with excellent kitchen skills, compassion and patience. You’ll be an experienced chef who loves sharing your knowledge and takes pride in helping others succeed.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Strong cooking skills and creative flair.
  • Experience in menu planning and kitchen management.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and enthusiasm for working with young people with learning disabilities.
  • A positive, can-do attitude and a collaborative approach.
  • Food hygiene and safety knowledge/certification (or willingness to complete training).

Education:

  •  Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Level 2 Allergens Awareness Certificate.

Why Join Us?

  • A meaningful role where you can truly make a difference.
  • Supportive, friendly team culture.
  • Freedom to be creative with menus and projects.

Regular working hours — Monday to Friday (no late nights!). Opportunities for professional development and training.
