Job Description

  • Assistant Grower (including some veg box packing/deliveries) to start in February 2026
  • Permanent contract
  • Part-time (3 days, Monday - Wednesday), however full-time will be considered for the right person
  • Wage - £13 per hour

About Coleshill Organics

Coleshill Organics is a 7-acre fruit and vegetable farm located in the picturesque village of Coleshill. We are certified organic with the Soil Association and have been producing vegetables organically for 25 years. We sell our produce through a weekly veg-box scheme and weekly farmers market, as well as to various wholesale customers including cafes, pubs and the Oxford Colleges via the OxFarm2Fork scheme.

We use a mix of mechanised & hand growing methods, with a Massey Ferguson 135 supplemented with wheel hoes, Jang seeder, etc.

Coleshill Organics currently has two members of full time staff and two members of part-time staff. This includes the lead grower & one full-time assistant grower, one part-time grower working two days a week and one part-time grower working one day a week on busy harvest days. We’re a friendly team and we communicate via Whatsapp and weekly meetings.

About the job

We are looking for an assistant grower to work an average of 22.5 hours a week Monday - Wednesday, however for the right person this could be a full-time role. Mondays will involve growing/harvesting work as well as some light admin duties for the veg box scheme. Tuesdays and Wednesdays will involve packing and delivering the veg boxes to customers using our delivery van, as well as topping up the on-site honesty shop with produce, however any spare time will be allotted to growing work. If this were a full-time role, Thursdays and Fridays would be allocated to growing work.

Key tasks will include:

Veg box and farm shop duties:

  • Packing and delivery of veg boxes on a Tuesday (all day) and on Wednesday (morning only)
  • Upkeep of on-site honesty shop (keeping produce topped up/shop tidy etc - this is usually done on a Wednesday morning)

Growing duties:

  • Working with the head grower to identify & prioritise tasks on a daily & weekly basis
  • Working with the growing team to manage getting work done efficiently across field-scale and tunnel production.
  • Carry out general growing tasks (propagation, planting, weeding, irrigation, use of tractor and hand tools, pest and disease management etc.)
  • Occasionally helping with irrigation of tunnels/greenhouse outside main working hours in the main growing season (this would only be asked of you if the lead grower and business owner are unable to do it, and if you were local enough to do so)
  • Harvesting & processing of vegetables, fruit and herbs for veg boxes, weekly farmers market and wholesale orders
  • General farm maintenance tasks in winter (tunnels/irrigation/tools etc)

Skills / experience needed

  • Systematic and organised person, good at working with a high level of attention to detail
  • Happy working closely with others, even on hectic days when some members of the team may be stressed
  • At least 2 years experience as a grower in a commercial organic/agro-ecological horticulture business
  • Experience working with tractors preferable but not essential
  • Able to work in a physically demanding outdoors manual job
  • Full driving license, comfortable driving a small van
  • Understanding of & commitment to organic growing principles

Unfortunately we aren’t able to offer accommodation, but we will do our best to support you in finding somewhere to live if you’re moving to the area.   You’re likely to need your own transport, as we’re in a rural area with limited housing options close by.

Wages & conditions

Wages are £13 per hour (paid monthly)

We run a company pension scheme via NEST.  You will be automatically enrolled (as per legislation) but have the option to opt out.  Monthly contributions are set at the statutory level (3% employer, 5% employee).

Holidays are set at 28 days per year including bank holidays, pro rata if the role is part-time. Dates need to be agreed in advance and coordinated across the team, particularly during peak growing season. Most holidays will need to be taken outside of peak growing times. We close for bank holidays but if these fall on harvest or delivery days you may sometimes be asked to cover work on that day, and can take this time off in lieu.

Application information

Please send a cv and covering letter outlining your suitability for the role to sonia@coleshillorganics.co.uk.

The deadline for applications is 16th January 2026.

Initial interviews will be held in late January (online or in-person depending on your location)

Start date February/March 2026 by agreement.

If you have any questions, email Sonia on the address above & we can arrange a time to talk over the phone about the role.
