Job description
Knead & Desire Bakehouse is an award-winning small batch open-plan bakery making handcrafted organic sourdough bread and pastries. We started in September 2021 with direct delivery, extending into farmers markets, wholesale and sourdough courses before moving the business to our first shop in Hitchin in September 2024. We pride ourselves on the quality of product, fabulous team camaraderie and amazing customer base. Along the way, we have also won awards at the Britain’s Best Loaf and World Bread Awards competitions, Best Mince Pies in Hitchin and more.
The role is for a full-time Trainee Baker.
No experience necessary.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone that fits with the team, will add a new dimension to the Bakehouse and grow as an individual as the business grows. Someone with bags of energy and enthusiasm, a love for good, organic and local food, a want to learn, and a passion for doing things fantastically. Quality of product and a friendly service are fundamental to our success.
You must also:
You will be given full training across all aspects of the business, from dough preparation, viennoiserie (croissants and other pastries), baking and front of house. Knead & Desire have ambitious plans for growth which will give you ample opportunity for development, specialisation and promotion within the business.

About Knead & Desire Bakehouse
Knead & Desire Bakehouse is a small batch bakery making handcrafted organic sourdough bread and pastries. We started on a farm in September 2021 and have been growing quickly, delivering direct to customers, wholesale to restaurants and hotels, weekend farmers markets and running sourdough courses. We also won six awards at the last World Bread Awards. Building a local organic supply base, a superb quality of product and an engaged and friendly service are fundamental to our success. Our next step is to grow the retail side to the business and we are in the process of moving the whole business to a new shop and bakery in the centre of Hitchin. Opening in mid September.
