Job description

Shillingford Organics is a commercial, mixed horticulture farm with a community feel just outside of Exeter in Devon. We grow a wide range of organic vegetables on around 60 acres for our box scheme, farmer’s markets and local wholesale. We have both field scale and protected cropping systems with a large dynamic team of six growers who co-manage the day-to-day running of the business by cooperative and consensus-based decision making as well as two, year-round Assistant growers.

We are currently looking to fill two seasonal grower roles for the 2026 season.

*Two day Seasonal Grower: The first of these roles is an opportunity to work closely with our experienced salad grower,assisting in all aspects of production from propagating, planting, weeding, harvesting, and packing orders. You will also have the opportunity to work generally with the rest of the team across all aspects of the farm during the year.

This is an ideal position for someone with an interest and focus in intensive salad production, who is hardworking and has a desire to learn and develop their skills in a busy, commercial setting. The role is a two-day position (16 hours) running from early March until the end of Oct, with the exact days of work to be confirmed.

Person Specification: (Two day Assistant Grower)

Essential:

  • Ability to learn on the job
  • Self-driven & committed
  • Good communication skills & the ability to work effectively both in a team & alone · Physical ability for manual labour & willingness to work in all weathers.
  • Experience of organic horticulture, preferably at least one season working &/or a season's training.

Details: This is a 2 day a week role from early March to late October 2026.

Days are 8.5 hours. 6am to 2:30pm including a half hour, unpaid lunchbreak. (though start and finish times have some flexibility inline with daylight hours!)  · There is no onsite accommodation available with this role. Hourly rate is £12.71

**Four day Seasonal Grower The second role is a more general seasonal worker position and as such you will be assisting the team in propagating, planting, weeding, harvesting, packing and delivering wholesale orders. This is a four-day role with one of those days focused on assisting our salad grower & another (Thursday) working at our weekly farmers market in Exeter alongside other members of the team.

This is an ideal position for someone with both previous experience of organic horticulture and customer facing work, who is hardworking and has a desire to learn and develop their skills in a busy commercial setting.

Person Specification (Four day seasonal grower):

Essential:

  • Ability to learn on the job
  • Self-driven & committed
  • Good communication & and the ability to work effectively both in a team & alone
  • Physical ability for manual labour and willingness to work in all weathers.
  • Experience of organic horticulture, preferably at least one season working &/or a season's training.
  • Must be older than 25 (for insurance purposes) and be happy/confident enough to drive a van (both electric and diesel).
  • Full UK Driving license

Details: This is a 4 day a week role from early March to late October 2026.

Days are 8.5 hours. 6am – 2:30pm including a half hour, unpaid lunchbreak (though start and finish times are flexible in line with daylghit hours). There is on site accommodation provided with this role. Hourly rate is £12.71.
