Full job description:
We’re currently looking for a seasonal worker to work 2-3 days a week from the 1st April to the end of October 2026. This would be a role to join a small staff team — two year-round growers, regular casually-employed land workers, an administrator, a community engagement officer, and a finance officer. We also report to a Steering Committee of around 6 members.
How we work
We produce certified organic veg shares all year round, to a CSA membership of around 130-150. We aim to be as self-sufficient (everything grown on site) as possible, but with some bought-in produce through the winter.
Our site consists of 9 acres of field vegetables (a mixture of no-dig beds and tractor-tillage), 2 acres of orchard, and 7 polytunnels.
We host two regular volunteer sessions each week, as well as community events and open days across the year.
The Person
We are looking for someone hard working and proactive, who pays attention to detail and can work effectively and quickly. The person must have a good understanding of organic horticulture to the point that they could do most basic jobs (propagating, planting, weeding, meshing etc) independently if needed, although we generally like to work collectively. You must be physically fit, and happy to work in all weathers. Any experience in broader farm skills (use of machinery, maintenance, building etc) would be valuable but not essential.
As a seasonal worker, you will not have oversight of any area of the farm work. What we are looking for is someone who has the basic skills to turn up at the farm at the start of spring and get stuck straight in. You will be expected to turn your hand to whatever needs doing that day, so flexibility and a willing attitude are important. Finally, the ideal candidate would have a strong interest in being part of a community and perhaps some experience working with volunteers - this is a really important part of what we do!
The Job
You will be participating in all the jobs at the farm, from propagation through to harvesting, including soil preparation, planting, weeding, irrigation, composting and pest & disease management.
The contract will run from the beginning of April to the end of October. You will work 2-3 days a week, preferably between Tuesday and Friday, although we are open to discussing days that would fit the right candidate. We would also expect occasional weekend work e.g. watering seedlings, joining volunteer days.
We work for 7.5 hours a day, from 8am-4:15pm, with a 45 minute lunch break. We pay the real living wage, which is £13.45/hour from April 2026, with statutory holiday, pension contributions and sick pay. You will receive a weekly share of the veg harvest, and the chance to take part in on-farm events and socials.
Application information
Please send a CV (max 2 pages A4) and a cover letter (max 1 page A4) explaining why you feel you would be a good candidate for the job to mail@canalsidecommunityfood.org.uk or post to Canalside Community Food, Southam Road, Radford Semele, CV31 1TY.
The deadline for applications is 9am Monday 2nd March 2026.
Interviews will be held at the farm w/c 9th March.
