Job description

About us:

The Coexist Community Kitchen is a non-profit cookery school in Easton, Bristol. Our main aim is to use food as a vehicle to support people who experience social marginalisation in our society. We believe everyone should have a space to share food, learn new skills, and build meaningful connections. We see food as the simplest way to help create a stronger, healthier, and more joyful society.

As a social enterprise, we fund much of our work through catering for weddings, corporate events, parties, and more – or by offering public cookery classes & events, which also support our vital work. So when you book us to cater for you, or join one of our classes, you're not just enjoying delicious food – you're helping make a positive impact in the community.

About the Director Roles:

We are hiring for two non-executive directors to join our board of directors and guide in the running of the kitchen. We are specifically looking for people with the following experience:

Business Experience: We’re looking for a new Non-Executive Director to join Coexist Community Kitchen. This is a voluntary role for someone who wants to use their experience to help guide a growing social enterprise — supporting our community work while helping develop our catering business.  You’ll attend around four meetings a year at our Easton kitchen, offer insight, share ideas, and act as an ambassador for our project. We’re especially interested in people with business or development experience, but we welcome anyone who connects with our mission. This is a chance to contribute to something meaningful, build connections in Bristol’s social enterprise sector, and help shape the future of Coexist Community Kitchen.

Non Profit Experience: We’re looking for a new Non-Executive Director to join Coexist Community Kitchen, with experience in the non-profit sector. This voluntary role is ideal for someone who understands the realities of community work and wants to help guide our outreach and future development. You’ll join a small group of Directors, attending around four meetings a year at our Easton kitchen, offering insight, sharing ideas, and helping us stay true to our purpose. We’re especially keen to hear from people with experience in the non-profit sector — whether through paid work, volunteering, or lived experience — who can help us strengthen connections and navigate a changing landscape.

The role hours:

The ideal candidates would remain in position for minimum 1-2 years after attending a 1st probation meeting. Directors would be reviewed after 5 years to see if it's appropriate to step down. Directors meet approx 4 times a year, with a small amount of emails in between (based at Coexist Community Kitchen, Easton).

Application information

To apply, please email an expression of interest to: ari@coexistuk.org stating:

  • Why you would like to be on our Board of Directors
  • Why you are suitable for this role including what you would bring to the role
  • Any relevant experience that would support your application

If you face language barriers, and need language support in this application please get in touch with Ari via the above email address.

We welcome applications from people with lived experience of support services. Transport and childcare support are available if needed.
