Job description

We are seeking to appoint a Catering Tutor to work as part of the Catering and Tutor team at Freeman College. This role will be based between our sites at Sterling Works in the city centre and also at High Riggs, our outdoor site in Stannington where you will be responsible for cooking a lunch time meal for all staff and students at the site you are working that day.

You will be responsible for all aspects of this catering area in conjunction with the Catering Manager. You will be responsible for supporting work experience students and students assigned to the catering sessions on site to achieve their targets and progress with their learning. You will need to complete reports based on your observations of students.

You will be responsible for the overseeing of a catering area including stock control, health and safety, staff training, setting up of good working practices. Ruskin Mill Trust has a nutrition policy, which focuses on biodynamic and organic food, so we are keen to see applicants who share our passion for nutrition and is familiar with using seasonal produce where possible.

You must be able to instil enthusiasm and enjoyment into the learning process in such a way that can lead to increased self-esteem and enhanced engagement in learning.

Ruskin Mill Trust is committed to professional development for staff and the successful candidate will be required to attend Ruskin Mill Trust’s Holistic Practices in Nutrition Course.

The key duties in this role will include:

• To cook the lunchtime meal for staff and students

• To embed communication, word and number into all catering sessions with students.

• To plan and deliver catering sessions to a small group of students according to their individual learning needs and requirements whilst preparing food for staff and students at the college sites (up to 75 people).

• To be a part of ongoing assessment of students learning needs and to make reasonable adjustments as required minimising barriers to learning and achievement.

• To deliver Aim qualifications in catering and to set sessional targets for the student and to complete progress and achievement paperwork, end of term reports etc.

To undertake this position successfully you will have:

• Ability to cook a seasonal, daily menu for large numbers at college lunchtime.

• Experience of catering and teaching/training catering

• A teaching qualification or working towards a relevant teaching qualification.

• Knowledge of specialist education

• Experience of working with learners with learning difficulties and/ or learning disabilities

• Excellent communication and organisational skills

Salary: FTE £29,215 to £38,387, Actual for 40 weeks £25,633 - £33,680
