Job description
Commis Chef/Chef de Partie (CDP) vacancy - The Drewe Arms - Drewsteignton
The historic, community owned Drewe Arms in Drewsteignton, Devon is looking for someone to work alongside our new head chef, who is already cooking up a storm in our kitchen and causing a stir in our community. This is no ordinary job. If you are recently trained and looking for your first proper role, or have some experience and feel that you are working at CDP level, this might just be the job for you. The Drewe was bought by the community in 2023 and reopened in 2024. We are building a team that will build on the great start we have made. If you think you’d like to be part of this, read on.
Our food offer
Simplicity, seasonality, value and taste. We believe that The Drewe can provide its community and its many visitors with a menu that inspires. Quality, not quantity.
Our kitchen
We have a small, well-functioning kitchen in the heart of the pub and our head chef has been quick to upgrade it and get it working as it should. The successful candidate will be willing and quick to learn and will become confident to take ownership of key areas of the kitchen to support its efficient functioning.
Our commitment to you
If you are successful, you will be joining a team committed to the success of The Drewe Arms. You will be well supported, treated fairly and be part of a nationally recognised success story. This is no ordinary position. We are creating a role with built in flexibility (including hours and shift patterns) and with the chance to be part of something very special in a very special pub. As part of our commitment to attracting the right person to the role, accommodation could be available as part of the negotiated remuneration package.
What does the role entail?
We are a new business and, alongside wet sales, accommodation and events, our food offer is vital for our profitability. If you join us, these are some of the things we need you to do:
Apply the skills you have and be prepared to learn new ones under Chef’s guidance
Maintain your workstation, keeping track of inventory and ensuring that everything is clean and orderly
Prepare ingredients that are used on a frequent basis, such as chopping vegetables
Cook ingredients as directed by Chef, plating dishes as indicated by recipes
Adhere to all safety and health standards required by law when preparing food
Provide further assistance to the head chef as directed
Work alongside kitchen and front of house colleagues, incorporating feedback to improve practices and outcomes
What sort of person are we looking for?
We need someone who has taken the time to look at what we are doing at The Drewe and not just putting an application in and hoping for a response. Our reputation is growing rapidly and we need to respond to that. You will be flexible, a grafter, willing to learn and be passionate about food. You will understand the place of The Drewe in the community and will want to be part of its success. If this all sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you. Simply complete the online form below and we will be in touch.
