Job description

Cook beautiful food. Work with brilliant people. Help fund something bigger.

The Shared Plate is looking for talented freelance chefs to join our growing catering team across weddings, celebrations, markets and workplace events. We create colourful, generous feasts built around flavour, seasonality and the best produce we can source close to home.

We welcome applications from experienced chefs at Chef de Partie, Sous Chef or Head Chef level. You may be looking to pick up event shifts, take ownership of a section or step into a lead role on selected bookings. We will match responsibility and pay to your experience.

This is event catering, so adaptability matters. You could be prepping in our Swansea kitchen, cooking in a marquee or running our pizza stall at a market. We need people who are organised, unflappable and generous teammates — and who care just as much about the story behind the ingredients as the final plate.

We would love to hear from chefs who:

• cook confidently and consistently when service gets busy
• care about seasonal menus, short supply chains and reducing waste
• are willing to learn new cooking practices (our menus are unusual)
• can organise their section and communicate before a small issue becomes a big one
• understand allergens, dietary requirements and food-safety systems
• enjoy collaborative kitchens without ego or unnecessary hierarchy
• want their work to help fund practical community programmes across Swansea

Location: Prep kitchen in Swansea and event venues across the surrounding area

Hours: Freelance event work, with evenings and weekends forming a significant part of the work

Rate: £14–£20 per hour according to experience and level of responsibility

If you have experience in both professional catering and community cooking facilitation, we'd love to hear from you. There may be opportunities for the right person to combine the Chef and Facilitator roles and work across both our catering and community programmes.
