Bioregional Coordinator - Marches

LOCATION: County Hall, Usk, Monmouthshire (With flexible, hybrid working)

GRADE: BAND I pay scale 31-35 £43,149 – £47,665

HOURS:22.2 hours per week / 0.6 FTE, worked over 3 days per week. Evening, weekend and Bank Holiday working may be required occasionally.

The Purpose of this Role:

This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of food, climate resilience and community wellbeing across the Marches. Working across Herefordshire, Monmouthshire, Powys and Shropshire, the Bioregional Coordinator will lead the development of a pioneering place-based project that connects communities, farmers, organisations and decision-makers around a shared vision for resilient, low-carbon food systems. The postholder will provide strategic leadership and coordination for the Marches Food Systems for the Future Climate Action Fund Project, ensuring effective collaboration across the four Food Partnerships and alignment between local delivery, bioregional learning and project objectives. Working alongside a cross-partnership delivery team comprising four county-based Project Coordinators, a Communications Coordinator, a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Coordinator and Business Support Officer, the Bioregional Coordinator will help connect communities, farmers, partner organisations and decision-makers, ensuring that learning, evidence and relationships developed through local action contribute to lasting systems change across the Marches Bioregion.

Expectation and Outcomes of this Role:

You will work with the Delivery Team and project partners to support delivery of the Project's three core objectives:

• A community-led food movement drives carbon reduction and resilience.

• More farmers sell food locally and adopt regenerative farming practices.

• Bioregional collaboration inspires and embeds change.

You will develop and maintain effective working relationships across four Food Partnerships and a diverse network of community organisations, farmers, councils, health boards and regional stakeholders. You will ensure that learning generated through twelve Community Food Resilience Clusters is captured, shared and translated into wider action and influence across the Marches Bioregion, helping to build a culture of reflection, learning and systems change. You will support the Delivery Group to coordinate activity, manage risks, monitor progress and ensure delivery against agreed outcomes and funding requirements. You will help build a lasting bioregional collaboration by strengthening connections between communities, farmers, partners and stakeholders, supporting collective learning and developing the evidence required to influence future policy, planning and investment decisions.

Your responsibilities are to:

Programme Leadership and Coordination

• Lead the strategic coordination and delivery of the Marches Food Systems for the Future Climate Action Fund Project.

• Coordinate activity across the four partner Food Partnerships, ensuring alignment between local delivery, bioregional collaboration and project objectives.

• Build a culture of reflection and learning for systems change across the partnership.

• Convene and support the Delivery Group.

• Work alongside the MEL Coordinator to monitor progress against agreed project plans, outputs and outcomes.

• Identify risks, issues and opportunities and support adaptive project delivery. 

• Prepare reports and updates for partners, funders and governance groups.

Bioregional Learning and Collaboration

• Lead the development of the Project's Action and Learning Loop, connecting communities, farmers and partners across the Marches.

• Coordinate Learning Circles, webinars and knowledge-sharing activities.

• Oversee the development and maintenance of the Resource Hub.

• Capture and disseminate stories, learning and good practice from across the partnership, working closely with the Communications Coordinator.

• Support the Delivery Group with the planning and delivery of the annual Marches Convergence. Governance and Participation

• Establish and coordinate Community Assemblies and support the Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Board.

• Promote inclusive and participatory approaches to decision-making.

• Ensure learning and feedback from communities, farmers and stakeholders informs project direction.

• Support the development and review of project governance arrangements.

Partnership and Stakeholder Development

• Build and maintain relationships with partner organisations and regional stakeholders.

• Work with local authorities, health boards, farming organisations, community groups, universities, national networks and other stakeholders to support delivery of the Project.

• Represent the partnership at meetings, conferences and events.

• Identify opportunities for collaboration, influence and future investment.

Systems Change and Legacy

• Lead the co-production of a shared Vision for Future Food across the Marches.

• Coordinate development of the Evidence Case for Change.

• Support campaigns, engagement activity and stakeholder commitments.

• Work with partners to embed food resilience within policy and practice.

• Support the long-term sustainability and legacy of the Project and wider Marches Food Partnership.
